Makes the Difference...for Students

Competitive Recognition Awards The Competitive Recognition Events program gives students opportunities to apply skills learned in the home economics careers and technology classroom, and to receive local, state, and national recognition for their accomplishments.

Gaining Skills For Life
FHA-HERO offers members opportunities for developing leadership skills, exploring career paths, interacting with school and community members and coordinating chapter programs. Today, these skills are developed through FHA-HERO activities and the home economics careers and technology curriculum.

Providing Leadership Opportunities
For the past 50 years, FHA-HERO has provided leadership experiences to students at four levels of the organization by developing a strong network consisting of chapter, region, state, and national structures. Elected officers at each level are responsible for planning and implementing activities such as the Annual Legislators' Appreciation Luncheon and State Leadership Meeting.

Applying Skills Learned in Curriculum
The California Association FHA-HERO offers the Competitive Recognition Events program for students to apply skills learned in the classroom and to receive recognition for their accomplishments. The CRE program consists of 20 events; such as Culinary Arts Display, Energy and Resource Conservation, Job Application and Interview, Applied Technology, and Fashion Design. Corporations and institutions provide support for the program with cash donations, scholarships and prizes for the state winners.

FHA-HERO student officers learn skills highly valued by employers-leadership, teamwork, personal responsibility, problem solving, and management.

Makes the Difference...for Instructors

Benefiting Instructors

FHA-HERO provides home economics careers and technology instructors with the opportunity to accomplish the learning objectives of the curriculum with a "hands-on/learning by doing" program that makes learning more realistic and relevant.

Enriching Classrooms
Quality secondary home economics careers and technology education programs include FHA-HERO as a co-curricular, teaching strategy to extend and enrich classroom instruction. The home economics careers and technology curriculum becomes alive as teachers guide students in developing leadership skills, exploring career paths, interacting with school and community members, and participating in chapter activities. What students learn in the home economics careers and technology class goes hand-in-hand with activities in FHA-HERO.

FHA-HERO is the National Vocational Student Organization for young men and women in grades 6-12 who have been or are currently enrolled in Home Economics Careers and Technology Education courses.
FHA-HERO Hands on Training FHA-HERO assists students in developing occupational, citizenship, and leadership skills needed for home, community and work life. As an integral part of the home economics instructional program, FHA-HERO activities expand, enrich, and reinforce classroom learning.
